If you store this spare bulb kit in your car you’ll never be without a bulb or fuse if the need arises. These are useful to have even if you only ever drive in the UK, but if you drive abroad then they are a recommended requirement in most European countries such as France, Spain, Italy and Germany (in some countries they are a legal requirement).
We are often asked if it is a legal requirement to carry spare bulb kits in France (as Insurance companies often state just the law in their advice to travellers). There is NO law in France to say it is - however if the police ask you to replace a blown light and you then drive (even a metre) without first replacing it then you will be committing an offence.
Therefore our advice is that to always be in a position to stay within the law is that you NEED to carry a spare bulb set - and that applies equally within the UK for the same reason. Common sense really - you wouldn't carry a spare wheel without a jack would you?
The spare bulb sets we sell contain essentially the same bulbs - it is specifically the headlight bulb in each of the kits that is different. This will either be an H1 (448), H4 (472), H7 (499) , H8, H9 or H11, HB3 or HB4 Halogen. Depending on the headlight the indicator bulbs may vary also.
However some cars do not have these Halogen bulbs or are Xenon Gas Discharge so require a completely different bulb for the headlight such as a D1S or D2S and then you will also need a kit for the other bulbs.
(The kit is still cheaper though than buying all the possible spare bulbs individually). Please note that these kits are generic bulb mixes and will fit most bulbs on most cars. However some cars (notably Honda and other Japanese cars) are increasingly using capless bulbs which need to be purchased in combination with a kit as the kits do not contain capless bulbbs except for the 501 front sidelight.
